Hugo Sotil (18 May 1949 – 30 December 2024) was a Peruvian professional footballer. Known for his skill as both a striker and midfielder, he became one of the most celebrated Peruvian players of the 1970s. His full name was Hugo Alejandro Sotil Yerén. In 1973, he rose to international fame after signing with FC Barcelona, where he made history as the first Latin American to wear the iconic number 10 jersey.

Passing
Hugo Sotil passed away on 30 December 2024 at the age of 75 in Lima, Peru. He had been hospitalized on 20 December due to multiple organ failure and septic shock, and died ten days later from kidney and liver failure.
