Indian actress Sandhya Shantaram, celebrated for her iconic performances in Hindi and Marathi cinema, passed away on 4 October 2025 at the age of 94. Her funeral will leave from Rajkamal Studio in Parel on Saturday at 10.30 am and body will be cremated at Vaikunth Dham in Shivaji Park, Mumbai Tak confirmed. Her last rites were performed at Vaikunth Dham, Shivaji Park, Dadar, Mumbai.
Sandhya, born Vijaya Deshmukh on September 16, 1931, in Kochi, Kerala, rose to prominence through her collaborations with her legendary filmmaker husband, V. Shantaram. She became a household name with films such as Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje (1955), Do Aankhen Barah Haath (1958), Navrang (1959), and the Marathi classic Pinjra (1972). Her performance in Navrang, especially in the song “Arre Ja Re Hatt Natkhat,” is still remembered as an epitome of grace and talent.
Throughout her career, Sandhya received numerous accolades, including the Filmfare Award for Best Actress in Marathi for films like Pinjra and Chandanachi Choli Ang Ang Jali. She was renowned for her dedication to classical dance and her ability to bring depth and authenticity to every role she played.
