German journalist and columnist Franz Josef Wagner has died at the age of 82, as confirmed by Axel Springer Verlag, the publisher of Bild.
Born in 1943 in Regensburg, Wagner began his journalism career in the 1960s and quickly became one of Germany’s most influential tabloid writers. He worked for major publications including Bild, BZ, and Bild am Sonntag, where he also served as editor-in-chief.
He gained nationwide fame for his long-running column “Post von Wagner” in Bild, where he wrote open letters to politicians, celebrities, and ordinary citizens. His writing style — emotional, opinionated, and often controversial — made him both admired and criticized across Germany.
Throughout his career, Wagner became a defining figure of German tabloid journalism, known for turning everyday news into national conversation.
