Renowned American actress June Lockhart passed away at the age of 100 from natural causes at her home in Santa Monica, California, her family confirmed on Saturday.
Actor Jon Provost wrote on Facebook, “I have some sad news, we have lost another movie and television icon, my TV mom, June Lockhart has passed. June and I worked together on lassie from 1958 to 1964, she truly was my second mother.”
Born on June 25, 1925, in New York City, Lockhart hailed from a theatrical lineage — her parents were actors Gene Lockhart and Kathleen Lockhart. She made her screen debut at a young age and went on to carve a distinguished career across film, theatre and television.

Lockhart rose to fame in two iconic television roles: from 1958 to 1964 she portrayed Ruth Martin in the family drama Lassie, and from 1965 to 1968 she starred as Maureen Robinson in the sci-fi series Lost in Space.
Her early career included Broadway success (winning a Special Tony Award in 1948 for her performance in For Love or Money) and film appearances such as A Christmas Carol (1938) and Meet Me in St. Louis.
In later decades, she remained active in television guest roles and maintained a notable presence at NASA-related events, reflecting her lifelong interest in space exploration.
Husband & Family Life
Lockhart married twice:
- In 1951 she wed physician Dr. John F. Maloney. The couple had two daughters, Anne Kathleen and June Elizabeth. They divorced in 1959.
- Later in the same year (1959) she married architect John C. Lindsay. That union ended in divorce in October 1970.
