Jimmy Shaw, an American actor who became a beloved figure in Spanish television, has passed away at the age of 59 after a long and brave battle with pancreatic cancer, Cristina Castano announced on Instagram.
His friend Cristina Castano confirmed his death and wrote on Instagram, “Today we are gone @misterjimmyshaw Few people I’ve seen struggle for life like him. We are absolutely devastated and it’s really hard for me to articulate a speech.”
“Of course, thank each and every one of you who put your grain of sand (both economical and good energy) to be able to afford the operation that, we hoped, would make him win the tough battle against cancer. Finally it couldn’t be, but it was amazing and very touching to receive the avalanche of donations you guys gave and I’m sure Jimmy is taking all the love you gave him,” she added
She wrote , “Ouch… My dear brother in law… I’ll take the thumbs up that you’d meet my son.. We’ll have to wait for it, but… Everything comes, and we all go to the same place, so I’m sure you’ll see it sooner or later. Fly high sweet Jimmy… 🕊️”

Cristina Castano published a post on Instagram on 24 September 2025 and wrote that Shaw’s fight with cancer had been ongoing for three years. At one point, it seemed he had won a reprieve, but the disease returned unexpectedly. In 2023, he underwent surgery in Barcelona. Doctors discovered that the tumor was dangerously close to a major artery, making the operation incredibly risky. Despite his determination, the procedure could not succeed. He then faced months of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and his friends and family even looked for specialists outside Spain, including in New York and Lisbon.

Today, @misterjimmyshaw who many of you will know as Mathew, needs our help. Since 3 years ago he has been suffering from pancreatic cancer that, after completely remitted at a given time, reproduced again leaving us all devastated. Hope returned when we learned that there is a doctor in Lisbon who is the only one who can operate Jimmy’s specific case, so all his loved ones have gotten to work and are raising funds to be able to afford the operation, which as you can imagine, no it’s not covered by your insurance or social security.”
Cristina Castaño, Shaw’s co-star and close friend, had shared her concern on social media, asking fans to help fund the €100,000 needed for a potential surgery. Her messages were heartfelt, showing how much Shaw was loved not just by colleagues but by everyone who knew him.
Shaw was best known for his role as Matthew in the hit comedy series La que se avecina, where his humor and charm made him unforgettable to fans across Spain.
He appeared in El Ministerio del Tiempo, Cuéntame cómo pasó, 30 Monedas, Velvet, El tiempo entre costuras, and Águila Roja. His talent allowed him to thrive in a foreign entertainment industry, winning the hearts of audiences with every role.
