Alfred Brendel was born in Wiesenberg, Czechoslovakia, and moved to Zagreb, Yugoslavia. He began learning piano when he was a six-year-old boy.
At the age of 16, he began composing music, and at age 17, Brendel began performing publicly. He performed for the first time in the city of Graz.
He was the first pianist to record all of Beethoven’s piano sonatas. In 2009, he was featured in the German-Austrian documentary Pianomania. He performed the music of Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, and Mozart.
