Anne Cheynet die: French author, activist and writer, Anne Cheynet died on Friday, May 23, 2025 at the age of 86, her family announced. Her farewell ceremony will take place this Saturday, May 24, at 3 p.m. at the Ligne Paradis funeral center. She born on August 23, 1938 in Saint-Denis. She grew up in city’s Saint-François neighborhood. Her full name was Anne-Marie Thérèse Fontaine.
She completed her education from Aix-en-Provence. She also worked as secondary school teacher.
In 1972, she published her first book named the poetry collection Matanans et Langoutis. She wrote her books in both French and Creole language. She was known for Matanans et Langoutis (poetry), Les Muselés (novel), L’Harmattan, tout’ kouler : Poème pour la terre multicolore, Ravine des Sables, ADMV, Rivages maouls : histoires d’Annabelle, Éditions Poisson Rouge and La clé dans zot poche: Histoires semées depuis le Grand Sentier. She produced three CDs of oral storytelling from 2001 and 2004.
