Arthur Folasa Ah Loo biography: Arthur Folasa Ah Loo was a fashion designer and former Project Runway contestant, and he was known as Afa.
He was a 39-year-old man. He was killed on 14 June 2025 during a peaceful protest called “No Kings” in Salt Lake City, Utah. In this protest, around 10,000 people gathered to speak out against authoritarianism and dictatorship.
Arturo Gamboa pulled out an AR-15-style rifle and began to aim it toward the protest crowd and fired.
A volunteer peacekeeper saw Arturo Gamboa and fired three shots to stop him.
In this shooting, Arthur Folasa Ah Loo was killed by one of those bullets.
Arturo Gamboa is a 24-year-old man who was injured but not seriously. He was treated, taken into police custody, and is now in jail without bail.
Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd said, “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the 39-year-old man who was killed, and with the many community members who were impacted by this traumatic incident.”
“Our detectives are now working to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident,” Redd said.
Afa Ah Loo grew up in Lotopa and Falelima, Samoa. He became involved in fashion design through his mother.
He became the first person from Samoa to appear on the American TV show Project Runway in 2019. He later returned on a special version of the show called Project Runway Redemption.
In an interview with Slug Mag in 2020, he said:
“I’m proud of myself for setting goals and reaching them. We didn’t have much when I was growing up.”
