Two women were arrested on Indianapolis’ southeast side after they allegedly attempted to break into a garage, confronted a victim while armed, and falsely claimed to be law enforcement officers.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), the incident occurred on Thursday, October 16, 2025, when Southeast District officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of East Bradbury Avenue following reports of a disturbance.
While responding to the scene, officers encountered 38-year-old Ashley Barbee and 26-year-old Jordan Demaree near the 2800 block of Hervey Street. After interviewing the victim, detectives learned that a physical confrontation had taken place during which one of the suspects pointed a gun at the victim. The victim managed to wrestle the weapon away and throw it into a nearby grassy area, preventing potential harm.
Investigators say that during the confrontation, one suspect identified herself as an undercover police officer and displayed a security badge, while attempting to steal the victim’s vehicle. However, detectives later discovered that the badge had been stolen in a separate burglary incident.
The firearm recovered at the scene was later determined to be a BB gun, not a real firearm.
Both suspects were taken into custody and preliminarily charged with: Robbery, Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer, Burglary and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon (SFV)
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) will make the final decision regarding formal charges. IMPD emphasized that all individuals arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The case has been recorded under Case # IP250090803.
