Dick Poole’s full name was Herbert Richard Poole who born on 27 November 1930 in Surry Hills, New South Wales, Australia. In his school time, he played reserve grade and also junior football at the De La Salle school in Marrickville.
He played with Newtown team in 133 matches from 1950 to 1958. Dick Poole moved to the Western Suburbs Magpies for his last two seasons in 1959. He played with New South Wales team in 1954.
He also played as captain-coach of New South Wales in 1957 and debuted in 1955
in the series against France in his Australian Test, then selected for three Tests of 1956 against New Zealand and he played six Tests and 11 minor tour matches.
He played team Wests in 31 matches, New South Wales in 15 matches and Australia (Tests & World Cup) in 13. His best performance was in Newtown team, his scored points was 168.
