The Stray Cats have officially canceled their entire U.S. fall 2025 tour due to frontman Brian Setzer’s serious illness. The announcement came after the first two shows in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and Rockford, Illinois, were called off at the last minute when Setzer’s condition worsened. In a heartfelt statement, the 66-year-old guitarist and singer said, “I’m heartbroken to share that due to serious illness, I am unable to perform. I’ve been trying everything I can, but it’s just not possible right now.”

Earlier this year, Setzer revealed he had been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that affects his hands, making it extremely difficult to play guitar. He explained that the illness causes his hands to feel as if he’s “wearing gloves,” preventing him from performing at his usual level. Despite seeking treatment and hoping to continue the tour, Setzer was forced to withdraw completely on medical advice.
The Stray Cats, known for hits like “Rock This Town” and “Stray Cat Strut,” had recently reunited and released two new songs, “Stampede” and “Teenage Heaven,” to mark their highly anticipated return to the stage. The tour was set to celebrate their comeback and decades-long influence on rockabilly music. However, with Setzer’s health taking priority, all upcoming dates have been canceled, and ticket holders will receive refunds from their point of purchase.
Setzer’s bandmates, Lee Rocker and Slim Jim Phantom, expressed their full support for his recovery, emphasizing that his health comes first. While no replacement dates or future plans have been announced, fans around the world have shared messages of encouragement for Setzer, hoping for his full recovery and eventual return to music. According to multiple verified sources including Rolling Stone, Los Angeles Times, and Ultimate Classic Rock, the musician is focusing on rest and treatment as he navigates his ongoing health battle.
