Dheeraj Kumar died at 80

Dheeraj Kumar died on 15 July 2025 at the age of 80 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He had been hospitalized at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai after developing acute pneumonia.

His family announced, “With heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of veteran actor, producer, and director… He was always laughing, always giving, and always present—for his family, friends, and the industry at large. A true gentleman, he was a father figure, friend, and guide to many… We thank everyone for their prayers and support during this time.”

CINTAA (Cine & TV Artists Association) posted: “Deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Dheeraj Kumar… His contributions and presence will always be remembered. Our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. Om Shanti.”

Dheeraj Kumar’s Career

Dheeraj Kumar began his career as a model in popular advertisements like Vicks Action 500 before stepping into films. In 1965, he gained recognition as a finalist in a prestigious talent contest by United Producers and Filmfare, alongside Subhash Ghai and Rajesh Khanna—the latter winning the competition. This exposure helped launch his film journey, leading him to act in 21 Punjabi films between 1970 and 1984. He also appeared in notable Hindi films like Swami (where the classic song “Ka Karoon Sajani” was picturized on him), Heera Panna, Shreeman Shrimati, and Raaton Ka Raja, in which he played the lead. Later, he shifted behind the camera, founding his production house, Creative Eye Ltd., and became its Chairman and Managing Director, producing several successful TV shows that left a lasting impact on Indian television.
