Des de Moor, the English writer, musician and songwriter, passed away in February 2026 at the age of 64.
Stalbansbf announced his death news on Instagram, “We’re extremely sad to report that good friend of our festival, the writer Des De Moor, passed away yesterday.”
“Anyone who attended one of the presentations or beer tastings that Des compered for us at the festival over the past few years will know what incredible personality he brought, and how enthusiastic he was when it came to talking and educating about great beer and pubs.”
Born on 20 April 1961 in England, Des de Moor built a distinctive career that crossed music, literature and cultural commentary. He was a co-founder of the electronic music project The Irresistible Force in 1987, working alongside Mixmaster Morris, which became influential in alternative and ambient music circles.
De Moor also gained recognition for his cabaret and performance work, most notably Darkness and Disgrace, a project created with Russell Churney that re-imagined the songs of David Bowie and earned critical praise. Beyond music, he was respected as a writer and translator, especially for bringing French chanson into English, and as a prominent beer writer.
He contributed to 1001 Beers You Must Try Before You Die and authored several editions of The CAMRA Guide to London’s Best Beer, Pubs and Bars, becoming a well-known voice in British beer journalism and a member of the British Guild of Beer Writers.
