Former Bristol City forward Marvin Brown has tragically passed away at the age of 42 after battling a rare and aggressive form of bile duct cancer, the club confirmed in a statement on Monday, October 27, 2025.
Brown, who had been receiving end-of-life care surrounded by family, was diagnosed earlier this year with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare form of cancer that affects the bile ducts. Despite extensive treatment and a community-led fundraising effort to support his family, his condition worsened in recent weeks.
In a heartfelt tribute, Bristol City F.C. described him as “a proud Bristolian who made club history and later dedicated his life to nurturing young talent.”
“We are deeply saddened to learn of Marvin’s passing. He joined our academy at just eight years old and became our youngest-ever first-team player. Our thoughts are with his family and friends,” the club said.
A Promising Career and Lifelong Dedication to Football
Born February 9, 1983, in Bristol, Marvin Robert Brown began his football journey at the Bristol City academy.
He made club history in September 1999, debuting at 16 years and 71 days old — still the record for Bristol City’s youngest-ever first-team player.
During his early years, Brown represented England at U16 and U17 levels, earning praise for his skill and composure on the pitch. After leaving Bristol City, he played for a number of clubs including Torquay United, Cheltenham Town, Forest Green Rovers, Yeovil Town, and several non-league sides before retiring from professional football in 2012.
Post-retirement, Brown turned his focus to coaching and youth development. He earned his UEFA A Licence and co-founded Total Pro Soccer, an academy that trained hundreds of aspiring players across the South West of England. His commitment to mentoring young athletes made him a respected figure within grassroots football.
Marvin Brown is survived by his wife, Alexis, and their two young daughters.
A fundraising campaign created to support them has already raised thousands of pounds, with tributes pouring in from former teammates, fans, and clubs across the UK.
