Former Top Gear presenter Quentin Willson has passed away at the age of 68 after a short battle with lung cancer. His family confirmed that he died peacefully on November 8, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Willson, who became a familiar face on British television through his work on car shows, was remembered as a “true national treasure” and a passionate advocate for motorists and cleaner transport.
I am so utterly devastated to hear that Quentin Willson has passed away.
He was the architect of the Warrantywise plan and revolutionised, not just the car warranty market, but through his campaigning and journalism, made the entire UK Motor Trade a better place.

Quentin Willson was born on July 23, 1957, in Leicester, England, and rose to fame in the 1990s as one of the presenters of BBC’s Top Gear. Known for his sharp wit and deep knowledge of the car industry, he helped shape the show’s early years alongside Jeremy Clarkson. After leaving Top Gear in 2001, he went on to present Fifth Gear and other motoring programs, while also becoming a respected columnist and campaigner.
Beyond television, Willson was known for his strong stance on consumer rights — particularly for highlighting the inflated prices of new cars in the UK compared with other European markets. In recent years, he became a leading voice in promoting electric vehicles and sustainable transport, founding the FairCharge campaign to push for affordable and accessible EV adoption. His career reflected a lifelong commitment to both the thrill of driving and the responsibility of innovation.
Quentin Willson is survived by his wife, Michaela, and their children. His family described him as a devoted husband, father, and broadcaster who “lived and breathed cars but cared even more about the people who drove them.” His passing marks the end of an era for British motoring television, but his influence on car culture and consumer advocacy will continue to inspire future generations.
