Georgia State Representative Mandi Ballinger, a respected Republican lawmaker known for her advocacy for children and crime victims, has passed away at the age of 50 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Her death was confirmed on Sunday, October 12, by officials at the Georgia House of Representatives.
Georgia State Representative Jon G. Burns announced her death news on X and wrote, “I am deeply saddened to share that State Representative Mandi Ballinger has passed away after a long and courageous battle against cancer.”
“While her leadership and impact extended far beyond the walls of the Capitol, Chairlady Ballinger will be greatly missed by each of us who had the profound honor of serving alongside her, and all those who knew and loved her,” he added, “I ask that you please join me and Dayle in lifting up her husband, State Court Judge Allen Morris, son, Henry, family, and loved ones in prayer as they face this devastating loss.”
Lieutenant Governor of Georgia Burt Jones wrote on Facebook, “I’m heartbroken to hear that Chairwoman Mandi Ballinger passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Chairwoman Ballinger served her district with honor and dignity. She worked on issues impacting children and families and fought tirelessly to improve their lives and futures.”
He also added, “Chairwoman Ballinger was a public servant for over a decade and will truly be missed. I had the honor of working with her and know that I am not alone in knowing her presence will be missed but her impact will not be forgotten. Please join me and Jan in lifting her loved ones in prayer.”
Ballinger had been open about her health challenges in recent years but continued serving her district with determination and grace. She is survived by her husband, Judge Allen Morris, and their son, Henry.
Born and raised in Georgia, Mandi Ballinger represented District 23 in the Georgia House of Representatives since 2013. Over her 12-year tenure, she became a respected voice in criminal justice reform, child welfare, and domestic violence prevention.
She chaired the Juvenile Justice Committee, where she worked to modernize Georgia’s approach to juvenile crime and rehabilitation. Her legislative efforts focused on protecting children, improving foster care systems, and strengthening laws against abuse and exploitation.
