Renowned German film and television star Ingrid van Bergen has passed away at the age of 94. She was found dead in her bed on 28 November 2025. Her passing marks the end of an era for a performer who dominated German cinema in the 1950s and 1960s.
Throughout her long career, Ingrid van Bergen became a household name across Germany. Starting in 1954, she rose rapidly as one of the most recognizable faces in post-war cinema, known for her powerful screen presence and femme-fatale roles. Despite a major setback in 1977, when she was convicted of manslaughter in a widely publicized case, van Bergen successfully rebuilt her life and career after serving her sentence. She later returned to the spotlight through theatre and television, and in 2009, at age 77, she experienced a surprise comeback after winning the German reality show Ich bin ein Star – Holt mich hier raus! (“I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here!”), earning the title of “Jungle Queen.” Her later years were marked by health struggles, including complete loss of vision in 2025.
Ingrid van Bergen is survived by her family members, including her daughters, as well as close friends who supported her in her final years. Her contributions to German entertainment, spanning more than seven decades, leave behind a significant legacy in both cinema and television.
