English guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Mick Ralphs died in June 2025 at the age of 81 after complications from a stroke. His death was announced on 23 June 2025.
He was known as a founding member of the rock bands Mott the Hoople and Bad Company.
His full name was Michael Geoffrey Ralphs, and he was born in Stoke Lacy, Herefordshire, England.
He began his career in his teenage years, playing with the blues-rock band the Buddies. He joined the Mod Doc Thomas Group in 1966. He founded Bad Company with vocalist Paul Rodgers, and the band released its first album in 1974, featuring the hit “Can’t Get Enough”.
In 1984, he toured with guitarist David Gilmour on Gilmour’s About Face tour for Pink Floyd.
In 1985, he released his solo album Take This, and drummer Simon Frederick St George Kirke contributed to it. Ralphs’ second solo album, It’s All Good, was released in 2001. In 2003, he released another solo album titled That’s Life.
He also worked as a songwriter for various songs including “Rock and Roll Queen”, “Ready For Love”, “Can’t Get Enough”, “Good Lovin’ Gone Bad”, “Movin’ On”, and others.
He is survived by his wife Susie Chavasse, two children, and three step-children.
Singer Paul Rodgers said, “Our Mick has passed, my heart just hit the ground. He has left us with exceptional songs and memories.… Our last conversation a few days ago, we shared a laugh, but it won’t be our last.… Condolences to everyone who loved him, especially his one true love, Susie. I will see you in heaven.”
Drummer Simon Kirke said, “He was a dear friend, a wonderful songwriter, and an exceptional guitarist. We will miss him deeply.”
