Veteran hockey journalist Larry Brooks passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 75 following a brief battle with cancer.
His death news announced by New York Post.
Brooks began his career in journalism in the mid-1970s and joined the New York Post in 1975. He moved into covering the National Hockey League, particularly the New York Rangers, and over nearly four decades at the Post became one of the most influential voices in hockey media.
Between 1982 and 1992, Brooks stepped into the front-office side of the sport by serving as communications vice-president for the New Jersey Devils. In 2018 he was honoured with the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award, recognizing his career of distinguished hockey journalism. Known for his sharp insight, unwavering opinion, and deep respect for the game’s stories and players, Brooks left a legacy as one of the great hockey writers.
He is survived by his son, Jordan, daughter-in-law, Joanna, and two grandchildren, Scott (14) and Reese (12). His wife, Janis, predeceased him in 2020.
