Ken Parker, the legendary American luthier and inventor best known for creating the revolutionary Parker Fly guitar, died on October 5, 2025, in Gloucester, Massachusetts, at the age of 73.
Matt Eich wrote on Instagram, “Ken Parker has passed. The first time we met he made me feel like it was a treat for him to meet me. I’ve never forgotten that and I will try to pass that feeling on to others. His work and personality has been a pillar for me. Thanks buddy.”
Born on August 25, 1952, Parker redefined modern guitar design through his innovative use of composite materials, ultra-light bodies, and sleek ergonomic aesthetics. His work bridged the gap between traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge engineering, earning him a cult following among musicians and guitar enthusiasts worldwide.
Parker began building guitars in the early 1970s and gained international recognition in the 1990s after launching the Parker Fly under Parker Guitars, a company he co-founded. The instrument became famous for its featherweight build, carbon-fiber-reinforced neck, and exceptional tonal balance — features that made it a favorite among both jazz and rock players.
After selling his company, Parker focused on crafting high-end custom archtops from his workshop in Gloucester. His later instruments were considered functional art — merging technology, acoustics, and pure aesthetics.
Parker had been battling cancer since 2023 and had stepped back from active luthiery work. He passed away peacefully, with his wife Susan Kolwicz by his side.
