Lee Roy Jordan was one of the greatest linebackers in NFL history. Known for his leadership and toughness, he played for the Dallas Cowboys from 1963 to 1976, becoming a key figure in their famous “Doomsday Defense.” Before his NFL success, Jordan starred at the University of Alabama, winning a national championship under legendary coach Bear Bryant.
Early Life
Lee Roy Jordan was born in Excel, Alabama, on April 27, 1941. Growing up on a farm, he learned the value of hard work early in life. At Excel High School, Jordan excelled as a fullback and graduated in 1959. His discipline and strength from farm life would later define his football career.
College Career
Lee Roy Jordan joined the Alabama Crimson Tide in 1960 under coach Bear Bryant. During his college years:

- Named Unanimous All-American in 1962
- Recorded 30 tackles in the 1963 Orange Bowl – a performance still remembered today
His outstanding performance earned him a spot in the College Football Hall of Fame.

In 1963, Jordan was drafted 6th overall by the Dallas Cowboys. Over 14 seasons, he became the heart of the Cowboys’ defense and an NFL icon.
