Born on June 23, 1952, in New York City, Anthony Jackson began his musical journey as a pianist before discovering his true passion for the bass guitar. Over a career spanning more than five decades, he became one of the most respected session musicians in the world, contributing to over 500 albums and 3,000 recording sessions.
Jackson’s pioneering vision helped shape modern bass playing. He was instrumental in the creation of the six-string contrabass guitar, expanding the range and expressive possibilities of the instrument.
Throughout his illustrious career, Jackson worked with a long list of iconic artists across genres — from Steely Dan, Chaka Khan, and Paul Simon to The O’Jays, Donald Fagen, and Michel Camilo. His precise technique, deep tone, and innovative musical ideas set him apart as both a session player and a solo artist.
