Alexander Kluge, a pioneering German filmmaker, author, and public intellectual, passed away on 25 March 2026 at the age of 94 in Munich, Germany.

Born on 14 February 1932 in Halberstadt, Germany, Kluge initially trained as a lawyer, earning a doctorate in law before shifting toward literature and cinema.
His career took a decisive turn after working with legendary filmmaker Fritz Lang and being mentored by philosopher Theodor Adorno.
Kluge became a central figure in the Oberhausen Manifesto (1962), a landmark declaration that called for a new, more artistic and socially relevant German cinema.
