Lem Barney is alive, despite widespread confusion caused by an incorrect death announcement earlier today. The misinformation began when the Pro Football Hall of Fame mistakenly issued a statement claiming the 80-year-old Detroit Lions legend had passed away.
That message quickly spread across major sports outlets and social media, prompting tributes from fans and former players. Within hours, however, the Hall of Fame retracted the announcement and apologized, admitting the information had not been independently verified.
Reporters then contacted members of Barney’s family, and his son confirmed that Barney is very much alive, saying he recently received a photo from his father’s nurse and even heard his voice during a call.
