“When they looked at him, they could see themselves in him. To go see him get his doctorate was really so special to me in so many ways.”
He was 40 year old and car driver is 18 year old young boy.
His another friend said, “It was very inspiring to me as a Black man.”
Eastwood shared video of suspect running away after the crash and the suspect was arrested by police.
Eastwood is worried about police chases at very high speeds. This deadly crash happened just a week after the Oakland Police Department (OPD) asked the Police Commission to make their chase rules less strict.
Right now, OPD officers must stop chasing a suspect if the speed goes over 50 miles per hour unless they get special permission from a higher officer.
Eastwood said, “I am horrified that CHP is doing that in general. And even more appalled that it sounds like the city of Oakland is thinking of going back to doing things like that. In my view, that will make out neighborhood much less safe.”
Marvin Boomer served at Castlemont High School in 2017 as a math teacher and He also worked as Career Pathways Coach.
On Thursday night, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) shared a timeline of the incident. It all started when officers tried to stop a driver near 102nd Avenue and International Boulevard. The reason? That car was already wanted because the driver had earlier run away from Alameda County police.
