Mary Bradley, a respected former Northern Ireland politician and long-time Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) representative, passed away on Tuesday, 30 December 2025, at the age of 83. She died peacefully at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry, surrounded by her family. News of her death prompted an outpouring of tributes from across the political spectrum, with many remembering her as a dedicated public servant and a strong voice for her community.

Mary Bradley had a distinguished career in public life spanning several decades. She entered politics in 1985 as a councillor in Derry City Council and went on to serve as Mayor of Derry from 1991 to 1992.
In 2003, she was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Foyle constituency, a position she held until 2011. During her time in office, she was widely known for her work on community development, mental health awareness, support for grassroots sports, and advocacy for women, older people, and vulnerable groups. Colleagues often described her as hardworking, approachable, and deeply committed to improving everyday life for the people she represented.
Mary Bradley is survived by her husband Liam, her daughter Paula, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family, friends, and former colleagues remember her not only for her political achievements but also for her compassion, integrity, and lifelong dedication to public service.
