According to verified reports from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, what began as a routine crash investigation quickly escalated into a deadly confrontation. Authorities said Deputy Jaramillo was attacked during an altercation with one of the individuals involved in the crash.
During the struggle, the suspect managed to gain control of the deputy’s firearm and shot him multiple times. Despite fellow officers rushing him to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital and medical teams working to save his life, Jaramillo was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The suspect fled the scene and later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, while another individual is being questioned by investigators. Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz described the killing as a “brutal attack” and promised a full investigation into the circumstances of the confrontation.
A large number of law enforcement officers from surrounding agencies responded to the scene, and a solemn motorcade later escorted Jaramillo’s body from the hospital as colleagues and residents lined the route to pay their respects.
Deputy Devin Jaramillo had joined the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office in 2024 after serving nearly four years with the Coral Gables Police Department. He was a graduate of the University of Central Florida, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Officials described him as a bright, dedicated, and compassionate officer who represented the best of law enforcement.
Across Florida, colleagues and leaders have expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Deputy Jaramillo. Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz called him a “hero who gave the ultimate sacrifice,” while community members continue to honor his service and bravery. The investigation into the deadly incident remains ongoing as Miami-Dade comes together to mourn a young officer who lost his life protecting others.
