Michael Sumler biography: Michael Sumler was an American musician who was known as Chicago Mike. He born on May 2, 1957, in Watsonville, California. Michael Sumler died at the age of 71 on May 25, 2025, due to a car accident in Cobb County, Georgia in midnight on Saturday. He collided seriously with another vehicle on Veterans Memorial Highway near Buckner Road.
He was a member of the legendary R&B and funk band Kool & the Gang, where he worked as stylist, choreographer, background vocalist, and dynamic stage performer. From 2000 to 2015, he worked with Kool & the Gang. He worked with songs including Celebration, Jungle Boogie, Ladies’ Night, Hollywood Swinging, Get Down On It, Cherish, Fresh and Summer Madness.
His band won Grammys and seven American Music Awards. Recently his friend in 2023, drummer George Brown passed away after a battle with cancer.
