Maria Angélica Pressoto is known as the wife of Mino Carta, journalist, publisher, writer, and co-founder of Veja, IstoÉ, and CartaCapital, who died on September 2, 2025, at the age of 91 in São Paulo, Brazil. He is survived by his wife Maria Angélica Pressoto and two children, Gianni Carta, and Manuela Carta.
After moving to Brazil in 1946, he started his career in the 1950s and soon became a pioneer in modern journalism. He co-founded some of the country’s most influential publications: Quatro Rodas (1960), Brazil’s first major automotive magazine; Veja (1968), which became one of the leading weekly news magazines; and IstoÉ (1976), another prominent news outlet. In 1994, he founded CartaCapital, a progressive magazine known for its strong political stances against corruption and authoritarianism. Throughout his career, Carta stood out for promoting investigative journalism and defending democracy and social justice. He was also a book author, publishing works such as O Brasil, A Fantástica História de Silvio Santos, A Sombra do Poder, and Carta ao Pai.
