The tragic search for 4-year-old Johnathan Everett Boley ended in heartbreak on Friday, January 2, 2026, when authorities in Walker County, Alabama announced that his body had been found approximately two miles from his father’s home. The boy had been missing since New Year’s Eve, when he vanished while visiting his father.
Law enforcement confirmed that Johnathan was deceased and that his loyal dog, Buck, was found alive beside him during the recovery. The cause of death hasn’t been publicly determined, and the investigation remains active.

According to Alabama law enforcement, Johnathan was last seen on December 31, 2025, around 11:30 a.m. near the 7000 block of Highway 195 north of Jasper, where he had been playing with his 6-year-old brother and their dog. Hours later, his father reported him missing. Search efforts over two days involved local deputies, the FBI, volunteers, drones, helicopters and tracking dogs, covering hundreds of acres of wooded terrain before the grim discovery.
Johnathan’s parents are separated. He lived with his mother in Florida, and had been in Alabama at his father’s home under a limited visitation arrangement at the time he disappeared. His father, Jameson Kyle Boley, 40, has since been arrested on separate charges related to unlawful manufacture of a destructive device and two counts of chemical endangerment of a child, after explosive materials were found at the residence during the investigation. Authorities say these charges are unrelated to the child’s disappearance but have affected portions of the search operations.
Walker County law enforcement continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Johnathan’s death and has urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in clarifying how the tragedy unfolded.
