Cavin Yarbrough died: American musician and singer Cavin Yarbrough died on June 19, 2025, at the age of 71 from heart disease.
He created several chart-topping hits with his wife in the late 1970s and 1980s. He was best known as one half of the iconic R&B duo Yarbrough & Peoples.
His full name was Cavin Leon Yarbrough, who was born on January 22, 1954, in Dallas, Texas, U.S. In the 1970s, he worked with Leon Russell’s band, where he met the Wilson Brothers. He then joined The Gap Band and featured as a vocalist.
He was known for “Don’t Stop the Music” (1980), “Guilty” (1981), “Heartbeats” (1983), and “I Wouldn’t Lie” (1983).
He debuted his own album The Two of Us. He released superhit albums with R&B including Heartbeats (R&B No. 10 in 1983), Don’t Waste Your Time (Pop No. 48, R&B No. 1 in 1984; No. 60 UK), Guilty (R&B No. 2 in 1986; No. 53 UK), and I Wouldn’t Lie (R&B No. 6 in 1986; No. 61 UK). In 2009, he appeared in Off-Broadway.
He married Alisa Peoples, whose full name is Alisa Delois Peoples, in 1987. She is also a singer and musician. She was one of the best partners of Cavin Yarbrough. After marriage, they returned to their hometown of Dallas and founded their own music production company, Yarbrough & Peoples Productions.
His wife Alisa Peoples said, “He was the love of my life, my protector. Now he’s my guardian angel.”
