Oscar Maroni, the well-known Brazilian entrepreneur and iconic figure in São Paulo’s nightlife scene, died on December 31, 2025, at the age of 74 in São Paulo, according to an official statement from his Bahamas Hotel Club and family. The cause of death has not been publicly disclosed, but Maroni had been living with Alzheimer’s disease and spent his final year in a care facility. His family described him in their tribute as someone who “lived intensely and stayed true to his convictions and his freedom.”
Maroni built a controversial and influential career as the founder and owner of the Bahamas Hotel Club, one of São Paulo’s most famous nightlife venues known for adult entertainment and liberal culture. Over decades, he became a central and often polarizing figure in Brazil’s entertainment industry, frequently clashing with authorities and facing legal battles over the operation of his club. Despite recurring accusations — including accusations of facilitating prostitution that resulted in legal action and temporary closures of his establishments — Maroni was ultimately absolved by the courts, and the Bahamas continued to be a symbol of São Paulo’s vibrant and provocative nightlife.
He also gained broader public attention through media, including an appearance on the Brazilian reality show A Fazenda in 2014, and remained a well-known personality well beyond the club scene.
Maroni is survived by four children: Aritana, Aratã, Acauã and Aruã. The family has indicated that funeral services will be private, limited to close relatives and friends.
