Veteran actress Diane Ladd passed away on November 3, 2025, at her home in Ojai, California, at the age of 89. The announcement was made by her daughter, actress Laura Dern, who said she was by her mother’s side at the time of her passing.
Diane Ladd’s acting career spanned more than seven decades, during which she became renowned for her versatility, emotional depth and memorable screen presence. Born in Mississippi in 1935, she began her career in stage, modelling and television before making a breakthrough in film.
She earned three Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress — for Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1974), Wild at Heart (1990) and Rambling Rose (1991). In Wild at Heart and Rambling Rose, she appeared alongside her daughter Laura Dern — making them one of the rare mother-daughter duos nominated for the same film. Her film credits also include notable titles such as Chinatown (1974) and many television appearances.
Throughout her career she expanded into directing, writing and advocacy. Her contributions to the craft and her longevity in Hollywood earned her acclaim and respect across the industry.
Diane Ladd is survived by her daughter Laura Dern, who confirmed the news of her passing and described her mother as “the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist and empathetic spirit”. She also leaves behind a rich legacy of work and a wide circle of collaborators, friends and admirers. Her husband, former PepsiCo executive Robert Charles Hunter, had passed away earlier in August 2025, just a few months before her death.
