Robin Westman (born Robert Paul Westman on June 17, 2002 – August 27, 2025) was an American individual best known as the perpetrator of the Annunciation Catholic Church shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The attack occurred during a school Mass and resulted in two child fatalities and 17 injuries, making it one of the most shocking incidents in Minnesota’s history. The case gained global attention because of its links to mental health struggles, online radicalization, and gender identity issues.
Robin Westman – Early Life
Robin Westman was born as Robert Paul Westman in Richfield, Minnesota, United States. Robin attended Annunciation Catholic School and graduated from eighth grade in 2017. Their mother, Mary Grace Westman, worked as a parish secretary at Annunciation Church for years before retiring in 2021. Reports suggest Robin struggled with mental health issues, including severe depression and suicidal thoughts, from an early age.
Gender Identity and Name Change
In 2019–2020, Robin legally changed their name from Robert Paul Westman to Robin Westman. Court documents revealed Robin identified as female and wanted the name to reflect their gender identity. This personal decision, however, did not resolve Robin’s ongoing mental health struggles.

After shooting and killing two children aged 8 and 10. and injuring 17 others, Robin ended their life before law enforcement officers could take them into custody. When police entered the church, they found Robin deceased with firearms and ammunition.

Authorities later recovered a manifesto and pre-scheduled online posts, in which Robin expressed deep depression, suicidal intent, and detailed plans for the attack. The FBI classified the case as an act of domestic terrorism and a hate crime.
