Authorities have identified Joshua Jahn, 29, as the suspect behind the deadly shooting at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, Texas, on Tuesday, September 24, 2025. The attack left one ICE detainee dead and at least two others critically injured, before Jahn died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to investigators, Jahn allegedly opened fire from a rooftop overlooking the ICE facility. He reportedly targeted detainees being moved in a van through a secure “sally port” area. At the scene, law enforcement recovered bullet casings marked with the words “ANTI-ICE”, suggesting a possible political or ideological motive. However, officials have yet to confirm Jahn’s exact motivations.
The FBI, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), along with the Dallas Police Department and Texas state authorities, have launched a joint investigation into the shooting.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the incident in an official statement on X (formerly Twitter), noting that while investigations are ongoing, federal and state law enforcement remain on the ground to secure the facility and gather evidence.

Public records show that Jahn had ties to Fairview, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, and possibly lived for a time in Oklahoma. He attended Collin College intermittently between 2015 and 2018 and briefly worked in the solar energy sector from November 2018 to May 2019. A spokesperson for the company confirmed he worked there for a few months in 2017 and 2018.
“We are very saddened by the absolutely unacceptable violence in Dallas today,” the spokesperson told KERA News in an email.
Tricia McLaughlin, a political commentator, shared her condolences on X (formerly Twitter), urging people to remember the victims and their families. She highlighted the human side of law enforcement, reminding the public that ICE officers are not just government employees but also fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers, and sisters who put their lives on the line every day.
Pray for the victims of the Dallas Field Office Attack.

Though Jahn had no history of violent crime, court records reveal a 2015–2016 arrest in Collin County for possession and delivery of marijuana. He later pleaded guilty, receiving probation and fines, according to Aljazeera.
Family members expressed shock at the incident. His brother told reporters that Jahn lived a relatively quiet life and had not shown strong political leanings.
