Walter Brueggemann died: American Christian scholar and theologian, Walter Brueggemann died on June 5, 2025 at the age of 92 in Traverse City, Michigan, U.S. at his home peacefully.
He served as professor of Old Testament from 1961 to 1986 and Dean from 1968 to 1982 at Eden Theological Seminary. He also worked as William Marcellus McPheeters professor of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary. He was practitioner of rhetorical criticism and also advocate.
In his career, he wrote more than 58 books, hundreds of articles, and several commentaries on books of the Bible.
He born on Tilden, Nebraska, U.S. He completed his A.B. from Elmhurst College in 1955, a B.D. from Eden Theological Seminary in 1958, a Th.D. from Union Theological Seminary, New York 1961, and Ph.D. from Saint Louis University in 1974.
Walter Brueggemann’s wife is Tia Brueggemann ( Tia Foley ). They have two sons: John Brueggemann and Jim Brueggemann.
John Brueggemann is a sociologist and co-authored the book Rebuilding the Foundations.
