Charlie Gaddy died: American television anchorman, Charlie Gaddy died on June 12, 2025 at the age of 93 in North Carolina.
He worked in WRAL-TV from Raleigh, North Carolina as anchor who born on September 17, 1931 in Roxboro, North Carolina and grew up in Biscoe, North Carolina. He completed his graduation from Guilford College. He worked as staff announcer with NBC in 1960, initially.
He joined WRAL-TV in 1970 and moved to Raleigh and host Good Morning Charlie.
Due to his work, he was known as anchor. He also worked with co-anchor Bobbie Battista, weatherman Bob DeBardelaben and sports anchor Rich Brenner. He became solo anchor when he accepted offer with CNN in 1981.
July 1, 1994, he retired from WRAL-TV and in which he worked around 24 years. In 2006, he joined reunion newscast. He received the Mid-South Emmy Award Silver Circle.
His wife was Nancy Rankin Gaddy and they have two children named Fin Gaddy ( son ) and Will Gaddy ( son ).
Journalist and anchor WRAL Gerald Owens said, ” My heart is breaking. Our longtime leader and face of WRAL for years has died. Charlie Gaddy passed away this morning. He has been a great friend and mentor since I arrived in 2002. I will miss him terribly, while cherishing our time together. I am glad that he will finally be reunited with the love of his life, Nancy. Rest in Peace my friend.”
Guilford College wrote, “Charlie was anchor of WRAL‑TV’s 6 PM newscast for more than 20 years … people wanted to hear it from Charlie… the voice of truth, integrity, accuracy and compassion.”
