Her husband was previously married to Linda Black Grisham in 1969, and they separated in 1977. After separating from his previous wife, he married Diane Smith in 2006.
He had ten children, including Richard W. Smith, who is a senior executive at FedEx and President & CEO of FedEx Trade Networks; Windland Smith, who was a wildlife photographer; Molly Smith, who is a film producer and co-founder of Black Label Media; Arthur Smith, who is an NFL coach; Rachel Smith, who is a film producer; and Frederick Buchanan.
