Tristan Rogers, the Australian-born actor best known for playing super spy Robert Scorpio on the long-running ABC soap opera General Hospital, has died at the age of 79.
Rogers passed away on August 15, 2025, following a brief battle with lung cancer, his family and representatives confirmed. The actor had revealed his diagnosis in July, noting that he had never smoked but was determined to face the illness with courage.
Born on June 3, 1946, in Melbourne, Australia, Rogers began his career with roles in Australian television dramas before moving to the United States. In 1980, he debuted on General Hospital in what was meant to be a short-term role. Instead, his portrayal of Robert Scorpio became iconic, appearing in more than 1,400 episodes over four decades.
Rogers was a central figure in one of television’s most-watched events, the 1981 wedding of Luke and Laura, which drew an audience of over 30 million viewers. His character’s mix of charm, bravery, and wit made him one of daytime television’s most beloved figures.
Beyond General Hospital, Rogers appeared on The Young and the Restless and lent his voice to Disney’s animated classic The Rescuers Down Under. He also won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2020 for his role in the digital drama Studio City.
Tributes have poured in from across the entertainment industry. Frank Valentini, executive producer of General Hospital, said: “Port Charles will not be the same without Tristan. He was not only a brilliant actor but a kind and loyal friend to everyone who worked with him.”
Rogers is survived by his wife Teresa Parkerson and their children. His family has requested privacy during this time but encouraged fans to celebrate his life by revisiting the moments he created on screen.
Actor Anthony Geary said, “Tristan was more than a colleague; he was family. Together we created moments that fans will never forget. His loss feels deeply personal.”
Fans also flooded social media with tributes. One viewer wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“Robert Scorpio wasn’t just a character, he was a legend. Tristan Rogers gave us a hero who made daytime TV unforgettable. Rest in peace.”
