Dr. Anca Faur Aldrin, aged 66, passed away peacefully on the night of October 28, 2025, with her husband and her son by her side, according to a family statement. The cause of death was later revealed by a close family friend to be a rare and aggressive form of cancer, which she had bravely fought for some time.

Anca was married to Buzz Aldrin—the legendary astronaut and second human to walk on the Moon—on January 20, 2023, his 93rd birthday, in a private ceremony. According to Aldrin’s heartfelt tribute, she was “the love of my life,” and “she brought joy to everything we did together. I will miss her dearly.” They first met at a work event in December 2017, began dating in May 2018, and married after a long-courtship.

Dr. Anca Faur held a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and began her academic career with a thesis on “Acidity Studies and Reaction Mechanisms on Solid and Liquid Acid Catalysts.” She spent nearly two decades at the British-based chemicals firm Johnson Matthey in roles such as Senior Scientist and Program Development Manager. She served as Treasurer of the California Hydrogen Business Council from 2014 to 2020, advocating for hydrogen and fuel-cell technologies. In 2019 she joined Aldrin’s space-entrepreneurial enterprise, Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC, rising quickly to Executive Vice President, a position she held until her death.
She is survived by her husband Buzz Aldrin (now aged 95), her son Vlad Ghenciu, her two granddaughters (Kaia and McCali) and Aldrin’s great-grandchildren, among other family members.
