Rock musician Scott Sorry (born Gerard “Scott” Engelter) has passed away at the age of 47. His family confirmed that he died on October 30, 2025—which was also his birthday—after a long and courageous battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer diagnosed in 2018. In an official statement, the family said they were “heartbroken” and praised his “incredibly brave fight,” adding that he has now found peace after years of pain.
He worked as a musician and songwriter
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 30, 1978, Scott began his music career in local punk bands before joining the Los Angeles group Amen in the early 2000s. He later became part of Brides of Destruction in 2005, performing on their album Runaway Brides. Scott earned major recognition as bassist for The Wildhearts, contributing to albums including The Wildhearts (2007), Stop Us If You’ve Heard This One Before, Vol. 1 (2008), and ¡Chutzpah! (2009). He also fronted his own band, Sorry and the Sinatras, and released his debut solo album, When We Were Kings, in 2016. Despite his diagnosis, he returned to the stage for a UK tour in 2022, demonstrating his passion and resilience.
Scott Sorry is survived by his wife, Hanni, and their three children — River, Ryder, and Rörik. His family expressed gratitude for his strength and legacy, remembering him for his humour, heart, and the joy he brought both on and off stage.
