Les Latcham, the former English professional footballer best known for his time with Burnley FC, has died at the age of 83. Burnley Football Club confirmed his death on October 9, 2026, paying tribute to the former defender for his dedication and contributions to the club.
Burnley Football Club wrote on Instagram, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former player Les Latcham, aged 83.
The thoughts and heartfelt condolences of everyone at Burnley Football Club are with Les’ wife Pam, his daughters Emma and Gaynor, and all of his family and friends at this very sad time 💜”
Born on December 22, 1942, in County Durham, England, Latcham spent more than a decade at Burnley, where he became a respected member of the team. The club expressed its condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones following the sad news.
Les Latcham began his professional football career with Burnley after signing for the club in June 1960. He made his first-team debut against Manchester United at Old Trafford on February 13, 1965.
During his time at Burnley, Latcham established himself as a dependable and versatile defender. He made 184 appearances and scored 12 goals for the club, becoming part of Burnley’s history during the 1960s and early 1970s.
One of the most memorable periods of his career came during Burnley’s 1966–67 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup campaign. He also featured in the club’s famous European encounter against Napoli, remembered as the ‘Battle of Naples’.
Following Burnley’s relegation, Latcham joined Plymouth Argyle in 1971 for a reported transfer fee of £15,000. He later played for Bradford City before continuing his football career in non-league football.
