The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) has announced the line-of-duty death of Paramedic Salih Abdur Rahman, aged 46. He passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2025, shortly after completing his shift at the FDNY Training Academy on Randall’s Island.
FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker confirmed the news, stating:
“The FDNY is mourning the loss of Paramedic Salih Abdur Rahman, a dedicated Paramedic who served the people of New York for more than two decades. He touched the lives of so many EMTs and Paramedics, and the many whose lives he saved. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and his three young children, and his family and friends.”
The department has classified his passing as a line-of-duty death. He is survived by his wife and three young children.

He worked as an FDNY paramedic
Salih Abdur Rahman joined the FDNY on October 18, 2002, beginning a distinguished career in emergency medical services that spanned more than 23 years. He first served in Manhattan Division 1, before moving to Station 8 in Kips Bay. He later worked at Station 16 in Harlem and then spent nine dedicated years at Station 13 in Washington Heights. In 2021, he was promoted to Paramedic and continued his service at Station 8 and Station 4 in Lower Manhattan. Most recently, he was assigned to the FDNY Training Academy, where he played a vital role in training new EMS personnel and shaping the next generation of first responders.
