Janina Garraway, the American dancer and actress who appeared in Chris Brown’s 2005 music video “Say Goodbye”, has passed away at 42. On October 30, 2025, Chris Brown posted a tribute on his Instagram Stories saying:
“Rest in peace, Janina! I love you and I’m so grateful to have worked with you … My heart goes out to your child and your family! ”
According to a GoFundMe page launched by her family, she had been battling stage-4 colon (colorectal) cancer, which was diagnosed when her son was just five weeks old.
She worked as a dancer
Garraway began dancing very young and trained in multiple styles such as jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, modern and tumbling.
She signed with a Los Angeles based dance agency around 1999 (around age 15) and then moved into professional dancing, working with high-profile choreographers and artists.
Her most recognizable credit: appearing in the “Say Goodbye” music video by Chris Brown, which brought her wider visibility.
She also served in other roles such as teaching and founding a dance institute (G.P.A.C – Garraway Performing Arts Center) according to Garrawaypac.
She began her dancing career at the young age of 6 and began teaching career at her local dance school in her hometown of Colton, CA at the age of 12.
She also appeared as artists in television shows such as Good Morning America, The Oprah Show, The GRAMMYs, The BET Awards and The American Music Awards.
Garraway is survived by her young son, born in early 2024, who was just a few weeks old when her cancer diagnosis was made.
