Grammy-nominated hip-hop producer Tay Keith, whose real name was Brytavious Lakeith Chambers, died on June 18, 2026, at the age of 29. He was found dead inside his Nashville, Tennessee, apartment during a police welfare check.
According to the Nashville Medical Examiner’s Office, Tay Keith died from the toxic effects of multiple drugs. His autopsy identified combined toxicity involving mitragynine, 7-hydroxy mitragynine, mitragynine pseudoindoxyl and ketamine. The manner of death was officially ruled an accident.
Mitragynine and the other related compounds are associated with kratom, a plant native to Southeast Asia. Toxicology also detected ethanol and nicotine in his system, while the medical examiner noted mild coronary artery disease. Reports do not establish whether Tay Keith knowingly consumed kratom or how the kratom-related substances entered his system.
Police had previously said that foul play was not suspected in his death.

He was particularly recognized for his work on major hits including Travis Scott’s “SICKO MODE,” Drake and 21 Savage’s “Rich Flex,” and BlocBoy JB and Drake’s “Look Alive.”

Following his death, artists including Drake and other collaborators publicly paid tribute to the producer and remembered his contribution to contemporary hip-hop.
