Legendary Uzbek theatre and film actor Yoqub Ahmedov passed away on 30 October 2025, at the age of 87, the Uzbek National Academic Drama Theater reported Zamin.
He was an actor
Born on 3 January 1938 in Namangan (then part of the Uzbek SSR) , Ahmedov graduated from the Tashkent Institute of Arts (now Uzbekistan State Institute of Arts and Culture) in 1959.
His theatre work spanned decades, making him a stalwart of Uzbek dramatic arts.
On film, he appeared in key productions such as “Adventures of Ali‑Baba and the Forty Thieves” (1980) and many others. He received several high honours: the USSR State Prize in 1977, the title People’s Artist of the USSR in 1991, and People’s Artist of Uzbekistan for his national-cultural contributions.
His legacy includes not just performances but his role in shaping modern Uzbek theatre and film, serving as a bridge from Soviet-era cultural production to independent Uzbekistan’s identity.
Ahmedov is survived by his family, including his daughter Nadira Abdullayeva, an actress; grandchildren such as Tojirahmon Abdullayev, Aslzoda and Mohizoda; and his son-in-law actor Rihsitilla Abdullaev.
