Jack White, a legendary German music producer, has passed away at the age of 85. He was found deceased in his Berlin home on Thursday, October 16, 2025. The Berlin police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of his death.
Berlin police released this sad news via the news agency BILD: “It’s sad news that reached BILD: Hit producer and pop icon Jack White was found dead in his bedroom at his home in Berlin-Grunewald on Thursday. White’s lawyer, Sebastian Loewe, confirmed this to BILD. The musician, whose real name is Horst Nussbaum, was 85 years old.”
White was one of Germany’s most successful music producers, with a career spanning from the 1960s to 2014. He produced international hits such as Laura Branigan’s “Gloria” and “Self Control”, David Hasselhoff’s “Looking for Freedom”, and Jermaine Jackson and Pia Zadora’s “When the Rain Begins to Fall”. Over his career, his productions sold more than a billion records worldwide, earning him more than 400 gold and platinum awards.
Before his music career, White was a professional footballer, playing for clubs including PSV Eindhoven and Tennis Borussia Berlin. He later transitioned to music, adopting the stage name Jack White to appeal to international artists.
White was married four times and had seven children. In 2015, he married Rafaella, who was 44 years his junior; they had two children together. The couple separated in 2023.
