James Wehr, the 27-year-old co-founder of South OC Cars & Coffee, has died following a fiery car crash in Irvine, California. Wehr was killed shortly after midnight on September 13, 2026, when a 2019 McLaren crashed at the intersection of Culver Drive and Deerfield Avenue.
South OC Cars & Coffee confirmed his death in a social media statement, describing him as a beloved son and brother and asking the public to respect the family’s privacy while they mourned his loss.
Wehr was also known online as a car influencer and enthusiast. His passion for exotic and performance vehicles made him a recognizable figure within Southern California’s automotive community.
According to the Irvine Police Department’s preliminary investigation, the 2019 McLaren was traveling north on Culver Drive and stopped at a red light at Deerfield Avenue. After the light turned green, the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed before the driver lost control. The McLaren struck a curb and a tree, then split into two pieces and caught fire.
Emergency responders extinguished the fire, but both people inside the vehicle were found dead at the scene. Wehr was later identified as one of the victims. The other victim was identified by her family as 22-year-old Alexis “Lexi” Kramer.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have indicated that speed appears to have been a factor, but the investigation into the exact cause remains ongoing.
