Marjorie Johnson, the legendary home baker who became a national sensation with her bright personality and thousands of baking awards, passed away on October 30, 2025. She died at the age of 106 in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, her family told Kare11. Known fondly as the “Blue Ribbon Baker,” Johnson became a symbol of joy, perseverance, and passion for baking across generations.

Born on August 9, 1919 in Minneapolis, Marjorie Johnson rose to fame through her unparalleled success at baking competitions. She began entering contests in the 1970s, and over the decades, she earned more than 3,000 ribbons at county and state fairs, including over 1,000 blue ribbons. Her talent and vibrant personality soon propelled her beyond fairgrounds and into living rooms across America. She made numerous national television appearances, including on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” where she became a fan-favorite correspondent, as well as appearances on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” and “The Rosie O’Donnell Show.” In 2007, she published her popular cookbook, The Road to Blue Ribbon Baking, further cementing her legacy as one of America’s most cherished home bakers. Even past the age of 100, she continued to stay active, participate in events, and inspire with her dedication and positivity.
Marjorie Johnson is survived by her three children Marleen Stromme, of Minnesota, Steven Johnson, of Wisconsin, and Marilee Wheaton, of California; and four grandchildren, with two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy “Lee” Johnson, who passed away in 2013.
