Gérard Brémond, the visionary French entrepreneur who founded the tourism giant Pierre & Vacances, has died at the age of 88. The company announced his passing on June 25, 2026.
Born on September 22, 1937, Gérard Brémond began his career in the 1960s after earning a degree in economics. He first worked on the development of the Avoriaz ski resort, a project that helped establish his reputation in France’s tourism sector.
In 1967, he founded Pierre & Vacances and later introduced the groundbreaking “New Property” concept, allowing individuals to purchase vacation apartments that were professionally managed and rented out while owners retained personal usage rights.
Under his leadership, the company expanded rapidly across France and Europe, opening numerous holiday villages and acquiring major brands such as Maeva and Center Parcs Europe. Brémond also partnered with Accor to launch the Adagio serviced apartment brand and took Pierre & Vacances public in 1999.
Although the company faced significant financial challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, Brémond remained one of the most influential figures in French tourism, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and sustainable resort development. Gérard Brémond is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Délia Brémond.
